Patent Infringement
Definition: Unauthorized making, using, offering to sell, selling or importing into the United States any patented invention.
Serial Number
Definition: A number assigned to a patent application when it is filed. A serial number is usually used together with a two digit series code to distinguish between applications filed at different times.
National Stage Application
Definition: An application which has entered the national phase of the Patent Cooperation Treaty by the fulfillment of certain requirements in a national Office, which is an authority entrusted with the granting of national or regional patents.
Doctrine Of Equivalents
Definition: A judicially created theory for finding patent infringement when the accused process or product falls outside the literal scope of the patent claims.
PAC
Definition: Patent Assistance Center (prior), now the Inventors Assistance Center or IAC.
Amendment To Allege Use
Definition: A sworn statement signed by the applicant or a person authorized to sign on behalf of the applicant attesting to use of the mark in commerce.

State of the art computer workstations provide automated searching of patents issued from 1790 to the current week of issue. Full document text may be searched on U.S. patents issued since 1971 and OCR text from 1920 to 1970. U.S. patent images from 1790 to the present may be retrieved for viewing or printing. Some foreign patent documents are available.
